According to the latest report released by the American Steel Association, the import volume of API 5L X60 PSL2 material and so on finished steel products in the United States is expected to drop significantly this year. According to the steel import data in the first four months of this year, AISI expects that the API 5L X60 PSL2 material and so on finished steel import volume of the United States in 2020 will drop about 17% year on year.

In 2020, the total imports of API 5L X60 PSL2 material and so on finished steel products in the United States are expected to be 17.456 million short tons, down 17.1% from the total imports of 21.051 million short tons in 2019. At the same time, the total import volume of US steel products is likely to drop slightly by 1.4% from 27.937 million short tons in 2019 to 27.556 million short tons in 2020.

Among all kinds of iron and steel products, only ingots, billets and slabs, mechanical steel pipes and screw steel are expected to achieve positive year-on-year growth in imports by the end of this year. According to AISI's forecast, the API 5L X60 PSL2 material and so on pipeline steel pipe will probably be the steel with the largest decline in imports in 2020, and it is expected to decline about 57% year on year. The imports of steel and tinplate for petroleum industry will also drop 36.0% and 21.0% respectively.
