Attentions in machining wear resistant steel plate

Due to its high hardness and double-layer characteristics, more attention should be paid to the wear resistant steel plate when it is machined. For example, for the cutting of wear resistant steel plate, we can use plasma cutting, water knife, electric spark, carbon arc, grinding wheel saw to cut large area of clad steel plate into the desired shape.

The ideal method is to cut with air or inert gas plasma arc. The recommended method is to cut from the back of the alloy. Carbon arc cutting should start from one side of the substrate. If a saw blade is used, it can only be cut in straight line, so a silicon carbide saw blade is needed.

Wear resistant steel plates can be cold-processed and formed into desired shapes, or arcs or circles, as required. In concave forming, alloy cracks will be closed due to inward stress; in convex forming, cracks will become larger and cracks will occur, which is the normal site. If the crack is too large, the corresponding electrode is used to repair it. Curl into pipes, according to the recommended small bending radius.

The large holes on the wear resistant steel plate can be cut by plasma, and the small holes are recommended to use water knife, electric spark and so on. The countersunk hole used for assembling bolts can be processed by special technology. The base metal of large area clad steel plate is a steel plate with good weldability. When two steel plates need to be joined together, the back base metal can be welded together first, and then the front surfacing layer can be filled with corresponding surfacing electrodes. Wear resistant steel plates can also be welded to other steel structures.

Bolts can be welded to the base metal of the steel plate by welding method, and then connected with other workpieces. Bolts can also be opened on the wear resistant steel plate to connect with other workpieces. The surface of the wear resistant steel plate does not need to be processed. If it needs to be processed, it can only be grinded. Other conventional methods are not applicable. Wear resistant steel plate is not suitable for the occasion with high requirement for surface accuracy.
