The ultrasonic frequency of A285C boiler steel plate is higher than 20kHz. The ultrasonic waves of different frequencies and waveforms are different from those returned by A285C steel material. After ultrasonic wave enters A285C steel material, it produces mechanical vibration. Because ultrasonic has different characteristics in materials, ultrasonic testing can detect different characteristics of materials.

The ultrasonic probe must be close to the material being tested. There must be a dielectric between the probe and the tested material.

During the ultrasonic flaw detection of A285C boiler steel plate, water is used as the medium, so called "coupled water". During the exploration, all the probes were on the same horizontal surface from A285C steel plate, and the acoustic coupling was composed of water. In order to ensure that ultrasound can enter the material well, the sound wave must pass through the water interface two times.

The test process is completed through two waves, longitudinal wave and transverse wave.The internal defects of A285C boiler steel plate were detected by longitudinal wave. It is suitable to detect the internal delamination, slag inclusion and spherical cracks of A285C boiler steel plate. Longitudinal and surface defects in A285C steel plate were detected by transverse wave.
